Leaf Peeping

With the variety of hardwoods and evergreens in this area, fall in the mountains offers spectular color and weather!

People come from all over to view Mother Nature's glory! Less than 2 hours from Atlanta, this area serves as the gateway to the Appalachian Mountain Range and offers easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway - a fabulous day's drive through absolutely gorgeous countryside dotted with small mountain towns just off the parkway.

WINTER
Winter in the mountains is quiet and peaceful. It's a great time to get away from it all! The average high temperature in winter is around 50 degrees, with an average low of about 28 degrees. We receive an average of 1.5 inches of snowfall a month in December, January and February. It's just enough snowfall to be festive, but rarely ever enough to be cumbersome or require shoveling.

It's a great time to hunker down, stoke the fire in the wood stove, read a good book, go for a hike and enjoy the time for inward contemplation.

SPRING
Springtime is a perfect time to go hiking!
There are no crowds, no bugs; it's not too hot, not too cold.
It's perfect!

Springtime in the mountains is pure magic!

Every two or three days, a new piece of the mountains comes to life and begins to burst with color. It is Mother's Nature's free kaliedescope show for all to see!

Nearly half of Gilmer County’s territory is located within the boundaries of the Chattahoochee National Forrest. The beginning (or end, depending on where you start) of the Appalachian Trail (AT) that stretches from Georgia to Maine is located right here in Gilmer County high atop Springer Mountain. Gilmer County is also home to Rich Mountain, the fourth tallest peak in the state at 4,081ft.

And there are numerous state parks that offer miles and miles of excellent hiking trails, mountain biking trails, horseback riding trails and beautiful vistas!

SUMMER

Summer is time to hit the water!

Try our Lunch and Sunset cruises on Carter's Lake aboard our Lake Cruiser.

Ellijay (whose name means "the Land of Many Waters") lies where the Ellijay River and the Cartecay River converge to form the Coosawattee River. The Coosawattee flows into Carter's Lake, an Army Corp of Engineers project. Carter's Lake offers amazing natural beauty and 62 miles of natural, unpoiled and undeveloped shoreline - no homes and no private docks. The lake emcompasses 3200 acres and is over 450 feet deep and offers numerous recreational activities from fishing and boating to camping, hiking, mountain biking and hunting.

This area offers excellent water sports opportunities - whitewater rafting, canoeing, kayaking, tubing, fishing or simply hanging out around a refreshing swimming hole.

We'll deliver a canoe to your cabin!
